2008 WBF North American Conference Tutorials

Take advantage of focused instruction from some of the world's leading automation authorities. Scheduled for Monday, March 24, these two-hour tutorials will provide you with concentrated overview of and implementation information for principle automation standards. Register for two and save up to $60.

All tutorials take place on Monday, March 24, 2008.

ISA88 Batch Control

1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.
Instructor: Lynn Craig, Former Chairman of ISA88 Committee

The ISA88 Batch Control tutorial will outline the general structure and terminology for procedural control as defined in the standard. It will illustrate the application of ISA88 principles and concepts in various types of manufacturing processes and will use examples drawn from both batch and continuous processes to illustrate the interaction of variable procedural control with dedicated classic control in the automation of equipment. Although the emphasis will be on automation of manufacturing processes, it will also provide some insights into the relationship of ISA88 with the ISA95 standard in an integrated manufacturing environment.

The New ISA95 Standards

1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.
Instructors: Keith Unger, Stone Technologies; & Dennis Brandl, BR&L Consulting

This tutorial will cover the recent updates and improvements to the ISA95 set of standards and harmonization with other manufacturing standards including ISA88, WBF, MIMOSA, OPC, and OAGIS. The updates and improvements are designed to better support maintenance, inventory, and laboratory operations management. The practical use and implications of the updated set of standards will be presented as well.

The New ISA88 Part 5 Standard

3:10 p.m.–5:10 p.m.
Instructor: Dave Chappell, CMAa-LLC

This tutorial will cover the in-development ISA88 Part 5 standards, Implementation Models & Terminology for Modular Equipment Control. The session is a detailed How-To for the design and construct of a modular open and interoperable ISA88 automation usable anywhere on the manufacturing floor. Attendees will learn the "intent" of the standard that will be used by industry to develop and support factory floor automation.

As this new standard gains acceptance, it will impact and improve your manufacturing operation. This tutorial will better prepare you to benefit from these evolving changes.

B2MML Vol.4—Business to Manufacturing Integration

3:10 p.m.–5:10 p.m.
Instructor: Charlie Gifford, GE Fanuc

The WBF B2MML schemas are becoming a popular method for ERP to MES integration, especially for companies integrating MES to ERP systems. The B2MML schemas are being used by control system vendors, by ERP vendors, and directly by end users to simplify and speed up integration projects. This tutorial will be a detailed focus on the B2MML schemas for material definitions, product definitions, production schedules, and production performance, with a special focus on mapping to SAP R3 information and to the new OAGIS ISA95 Business Object Definitions (BODs). The material and product definitions are used to integrate shop floor systems with material masters, BOMs, and inventory accounting systems. The production schedule and production performance reports are used to integrate shop floor systems with advanced planning systems, supply chain systems, inventory systems, and production cost accounting systems. The seminar includes an explanation of the meaning and structure of the B2MML elements and discusses specific implementations and SAP and OAGIS mappings used in projects. The seminar includes an explanation of the design decisions made in creating the B2MML schemas and identifies the steps involved and recommended practices for developing corporate extensions to the schemas.
